Short post this week. Want to know why?
Because this is what I’m thinking about lately
Simple is the way.
I have a tendency to overcomplicate things.
All the things!
But I have learned that if I take a few steps back I can usually see a simpler way forward.
I read a pretty interesting book last year that got me thinking more along these lines. It’s called The Simplicity Principle by Julia Hobsbawm. Click the link if you’re curious. (It’s not an affiliate link, just sharing something I found useful.)
Anyway, take my business as an example. There are a countless number of marketing hacks and tricks. There are more productivity tools than I can possibly list.
And courses! I could literally spend thousands a month on courses that promise to show the busy entrepreneur how to maximize their business.
But when I step back, the way forward for me is simple. My entire business model is predicated on three simple steps.
- Be helpful on LinkedIn
- Connect with new people every day
- Write this newsletter once a week.
That’s it, and it works fine.
Simplicity just works. And it’s true for you to, especially if you are trying to build a network on LinkedIn for either general career growth or an active job search.
It’s easy to lose the forest for the trees when in fact you just need 3 simple steps.
- Create a dynamic profile
- Share a post 3 times a week
- Reach out with personalized connection requests daily
Rinse and repeat.
