Faster Doesn’t Equal Better

“Not all who wander are lost.”

It’s a meme I’ve run into a lot lately, and while I’m not the kind of person to fill up people’s feeds with picturesque quotes, this one has got me thinking. In the world of career-driven professionals maybe a little more wandering would be helpful.

I know a lot of people, intelligent professionals, who are moving so fast in their careers that they have lost sense of exactly where they are going.  Going faster doesn’t make you less lost. Sometimes it is better to slow down and evaluate just what you want out of your career. You just might come to the realization that you are the one who is lost.

What then? Well, knowing you’re lost is half the battle. Think about where you want to really be in 5 years and if it is not still being on your current path, make some course corrections.

It’s okay to ask for directions. It’s okay to wander a bit.
